Assistant Professor of Art

The Department of Art and Design at Barton College seeks candidates for a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2012. Candidates should be prepared to teach painting/2D studies and a variety of foundation courses such as drawing (linear and atmospheric perspective), color theory, art appreciation, art history survey, or gallery management. Responsibilities include 24 credits of teaching, academic advising, creative scholarship related to artistic production and exhibition, service on department and college committees, and participation in professional organizations and activities.

Minimum qualifications include a MFA in Fine Arts/Painting, a strong background in traditional representational and contemporary techniques and theory, an active exhibition record, and college-level teaching experience.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

Barton College seeks candidates for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor starting August 2012. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in Elementary Education at the undergraduate and graduate level and occasionally in the Accelerated Professional Program.

The successful candidate will possess expertise and experience in the teaching of reading/literacy. Responsibilities include collaborating with current faculty and public school personnel, supervising teacher candidates in local schools, academic advising, scholarship, and participating in ongoing preparations for NCATE re-accreditation and in creating and implementing policies according to Department of Public Instruction and college guidelines.

Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in a field of education that is closely related to the qualifications of this position, a current teaching license in Elementary Education, and K-12 teaching experience, preferably including teaching diverse groups of students. Assistant Professor of Marketing

The School of Business at Barton College invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track, assistant professor position in marketing beginning fall 2012. Responsibilities include 24 credits of teaching in the traditional and accelerated professional programs, academic advising, scholarship, and service on school and college committees. Teaching will focus on the following courses: Principles of Marketing, Retailing/Sales, Promotions Management, Human Resources Management, Managerial Communications, and Organizational Behavior.

Qualifications include an ability to develop contemporary curricula in the Marketing discipline, evidence of effective teaching, a strong interest in mentoring undergraduate students, and a well thought-out research agenda. The applicant must possess a Ph.D. from an accredited university.

Director of the Library

Barton College seeks a Director of the Library who is forward thinking, service-oriented, and technologically driven. The Director reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for the administration of library collections; services for traditional and non-traditional students, faculty, and the local community; personnel, facilities, and the budget. The Director must focus on internal operations while cultivating relationships with community groups and state and national associations.

Candidates must have excellent communication skills, grant writing success for library needs, and flexibility to initiate and manage change. Candidates must be committed to working with faculty and students to promote information and technological literacy, scholarship, and usage of the library. Minimum qualifications include a master’s in library science from an ALA-accredited program and experience as a library administrator. The position is a 12-month librarian contract with faculty status.

Barton College serves nearly 1200 traditional, accelerated, and graduate students in a wide range of liberal arts and professional programs. The College has national stature in teaching critical thinking and communication skills (as measured by the CLA) and emphasizes individual attention and engaged learning.
