Academic Advisor

Barton College seeks candidates for the academic advisor position in the Lifelong Education program for adult learners.
DUTIES:
• Advising adult students
• Monitoring students' progress
REQUIREMENTS:
• A master's degree
• Experience in academic advising in higher education
• The ability to write and communicate well
• The ability to work with faculty and staff in meeting the needs of adult learners
• A flexible schedule for some evening and weekend advising, orientation, and open house events

Admissions Customer Service Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Office of Admissions
DESCRIPTION:
The Barton College Office of Admissions seeks a candidate for the admissions customer service specialist position.
DUTIES:
• Greeting all visitors
• Answering the phone
• Assisting students at all times
• Receiving inquiries from prospective students by phone, email, and in person
• Creating admission files for prospective students
• Performing data entry and generating reports through the AS400 computer system
• Assisting in Open House and information sessions and in follow-up with prospective students
• Developing updated content for the admissions website
• Conducting the daily letter flow
REQUIREMENTS:
• A bachelor's degree is preferred
• Experience in admissions is a plus

Assistant/Associate Professor

DUTIES:
• Teaching courses in Elementary Education at undergraduate and graduate levels

REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong background in teaching reading/literacy or mathematics/science methods preferred
• Special consideration given to candidates with licensure in Special Education or Middle Grades Education
• A doctorate in a closely-related field of education
• Current teaching license in Elementary Education
• Public school teaching experience

Director of the Master of Education Program
DEPARTMENT: School of Education
DESCRIPTION:
Barton College seeks candidates for a tenure track appointment as Director of the Master of Education Program starting May/June 2010.
DUTIES:
• Overseeing the newly-created M.Ed. program
• Teaching online graduate courses and traditional undergraduate courses during the academic year
• Teaching summer graduate level courses
• Scheduling courses and faculty
• Collaborating with current faculty and public school personnel
• Participating in NCATE re-accreditation and in creating and implementing policies according to N.C. guidelines
REQUIREMENTS:
• A doctorate in Elementary Education or in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Elementary Education or other closely-related field
• A minimum of three years of K-6 public school teaching experience
• Experience with technology and/or online instructional delivery

Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field
DEPARTMENT: Physical Education and Sport Studies
DESCRIPTION:
Barton College seeks candidates for the position of Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field. This is a nine-month, full-time position to begin no later than January 15, 2010. Barton College competes in Conference Carolinas and at the NCAA Division II level and has competed in cross country for the last 10 years. Track and field will be the institution's newest sport.
DUTIES:
• Practice and competition coaching
• Recruiting and retention of participating student-athletes
• Performance of additional tasks as needed to provide leadership to these teams
• Teaching seven semester hours per year in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies (This is the full course load beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year)
REQUIREMENTS:
• A four-year degree in physical education or a related area
• Participation and/or coaching experience in cross country and track and field, preferably at the college level
