FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS

Your college education will set the course of the rest of your life -- your career choice, your connections, your opportunities all begin here. So it's a major decision. And a major investment. At Barton, we're committed making the high-quality liberal arts education you need to excel in today's world affordable.

The Office of Financial Aid will work with you to put together a financial aid package of loans, grants, scholarships, and part-time employment that will help you pay for college. Most Barton students need some form of financial aid to meet the cost of a college education. In fact, each year we offer more than $16 million in aid to over 90% of our students.

Applying for Financial Aid

At Barton, we've made applying for financial aid easy. All it takes is one form -- the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA allows the federal government to determine how much your family can be expected to contribute to educational expenses. When you apply for financial aid, the amount you're awarded is based on the difference between the cost of attending Barton and this expected contribution.

1. Complete the FAFSA. You can fill out the application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you prefer a paper copy of the application, you may connect the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-4-FEDAID and request one to be mailed to you.

2. Enter Barton's school code (002908-00) on your FAFSA so that we'll receive your information as soon as it is processed.

3. Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 but no later than May 1. If you apply after May 1, you will be considered only for funds that are still available.

You've done all you need to do!

About four to six weeks after submitting your FAFSA (or earlier if you apply online), you'll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal Student Aid Programs processing center that outlines your expected family contribution. You should hear from us within two weeks of receiving your SAR -- we'll send you an award notice or financial aid package based on your SAR. These notices go out as early as February 1.

Tips for the financial aid process

  • Remember to make copies of all the forms you submit for your own records.

  • Review any requests for additional information carefully and respond to them as quickly as possible.

  • No official award letter will be issued unless you have been granted admission to Barton.

  • You can get a more comprehensive sneak peak into the type of financial aid package you may receive with our early estimator forms . Estimators are processed between October 1 and December 31. After that, we request that you complete the FAFSA in order to calculate your award.
