Pat Burrus came to Barton College as an assistant professor of accounting in the fall of 1994. She currently serves the College as the Interim Dean in the School of Business in addition to her teaching responsibilities for tax accounting and introductory, intermediate, and advanced financial accounting. Working with others in the Barton community, she was instrumental in designing a Quality Enhancement Plan for Barton College to provide a platform upon which students at the College can enhance their written communication skills. Prior to coming to Barton, she taught accounting at Mount Olive College from 1986-1994 and at East Carolina University from 1977-1986.
A native of Morristown, Tenn., Burrus received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in Fredericksburg, a Master of Science degree in inorganic chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a Master of Business Administration degree from East Carolina University. In 1983, she obtained her C.P.A. license in the State of North Carolina. She received the 2009-2010 Outstanding Educator Award from the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants for Outstanding Performance by a Member in the Education Profession.
Burrus is married to retired DuPont research chemist, Dr. R. Tilden Burrus. They have two children, seven grandchildren, and two dogs, Lady and Sweetpea.
