News from the School of Nursing

During spring break in March 2008, Associate Professor of Nursing Carol Ruwe and seven nursing students traveled to Costa Rica for NTR 003 - Costa Rica: Food and Culture. During this eight-day travel course, the group explored various regions of Costa Rica experiencing regional and cultural differences within the country. While there, the students visited a local clinic to complete the final phase of a project initiated by the Barton College Association of Nursing Students (BCANS). BCANS raised money earlier in the year to purchase a DVD player and a childbirth education DVD for a local clinic outside of Grecia, Costa Rica. Because of a lack of resources, the clinic had been forced to discontinue childbirth education classes over the past months. The Barton group delivered the DVD player and DVD to the clinic, and childbirth education classes are set to resume. Special thanks to BCANS and Carol Ruwe for meeting a very important community need.
