Office Policy and Procedures

Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions of your life. You naturally want the best education possible, but you may be overwhelmed by the cost of attending your preferred institution. Perhaps you have considered choosing a more affordable school instead of your first choice. Stop right there! At Barton College we believe you should never settle for second best. Your college decision should be based on quality, not cost. After all, your degree will help determine your future successes since both your personal and professional accomplishments depend on the quality of your education. We are here to assist you in preparing a strategy that will help make your education affordable.

At Barton, we only require one form, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We encourage you to file electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov for the fastest results. If you prefer, you may complete the paper FAFSA application, which is available in early December through your high school guidance counselor or local public library. You may also contact the Financial Aid Office at Barton College and we will be happy to mail a copy directly to you. Make sure that you enter Barton’s school code 002908-00 so that we will receive your information as soon as it is processed.

The benefits of an excellent college experience will last forever. At Barton College, you will receive a high-quality liberal arts education that will provide you with the knowledge, skills, global understanding and perspective you will need to excel in today’s world. We hope the information in this brochure will help you decide to invest in your future by choosing Barton.

What Is Financial Aid?

Financial aid is assistance that has been made available to help a student pay for college. The majority of aid comes from federal and state governments, but it may also include private and institutional sources. There are four basic types of aid programs, scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans.

How Do I Apply?

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Timing is very important. We strongly encourage you to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 – but no later than April 1. If you apply after that date, then you will be considered for available funds, but just remember – “the early bird gets the worm!” About four to six weeks after you complete and send the FAFSA (earlier if you apply electronically), you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal Student Aid Programs processing center. We start sending out award notices or “financial aid packages” on February 1. You can expect to hear from us within two weeks of receiving your SAR.

Barton is pleased to offer an early estimator service to assist you in getting a “sneak peak” into the type of financial aid package that you may receive. The estimator form is available through the Admissions and Financial Aid offices and can also be found on our web site at www.barton.edu. Estimators are processed between October 1 and December 31. After that time we request that you complete the FAFSA in order to calculate your award.

Payment Options

We understand how difficult and financially burdening the costs of attending college can be. One way we help meet these needs is by offering various payment options which allow educational costs to be budgeted in more manageable monthly payments. If you are interested in more information about our payment plans, then please contact the Barton College Business Office at 1-800-789-1392 or visit our web site at http://www.barton.edu/controller/default.htm.
