WILSON, N.C. — B. Perry Morrison, Jr., an attorney and owner of Morrison Law Firm, PLLC, in Wilson, has been named a Senior Visiting Fellow for the International Studies Program at Barton College for 2011-2012.
“Perry has been involved with Barton College in a variety of ways over the last few years,” shared Dr. John P. Marsden, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We look forward to the additional contributions he will make to our International Studies Program by drawing upon his passion for and knowledge of international studies, connections in the community, and commitment to our students.”
In this new role, Morrison will coordinate the recruitment of instructors and trip leaders for new travel programs and will assist with the recruitment of participants for these programs. He also will supervise the relationship between the College and travel providers, such as Casterbridge Tours, and he will develop appropriate contracts with these international service providers for review and execution by senior administration.
In concert with senior administration, Morrison will establish priorities for the College’s International Studies Program. In addition, he will develop and oversee best practice policies for domestic and international travel programs, as well as providing useful orientation and training sessions in the current best practices for these programs. Morrison will also assist the Office of the President and the Office of Institutional Advancement in fundraising initiatives focusing on student scholarship for international travel.
Morrison currently serves as a member of the Barton College Board of Advisors. In addition, he served as a guest lecturer in history for the Department of History and Social Sciences in 2008 and was a member of the Founders’ Day Committee in 2010. Morrison led Barton’s “Highland Adventure” trip to Scotland in 2011 and served as a co-leader with for the College’s “Band of Brothers” trip to Europe in 2009 and the “Citizen Soldier” trip to Europe in 2010.
A member of the North Carolina Bar Association, Morrison currently serves as chair of the Communications Committee. Past roles with the N.C. Bar Association have also included his serving on the Legislative Committee and serving as vice chair and chair for the Litigation Section Council.
Morrison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 and completed in Juris Doctor degree at UNC-CH in 1988.
Active in local and regional community service, Morrison was recognized by the North Carolina Jaycees as an Outstanding Young North Carolinian in 1995 and the Distinguished Wilsonian Award in 1994. Morrison serves as a member of the National Register Advisory Committee for the North Carolina Historical Commission as well as the chair of the Museum Committee, which oversees all North Carolina history museums. He also serves on the N.C. Museum of History Accessions Committee as well as the board of directors for the Tryon Palace Council of Friends and the N.C. Museum of History Associates.
In addition to serving as president of the Wilson County Historical Association, Morrison serves as a member of the Wilson County Public Library Board of Trustees, the Wilson Kiwanis All-American Club, and Preservation of Wilson. Past service includes assistant scoutmaster for Troop 6 and den leader for Pack 6. He is a past member of the local boards of directors for the American Heart Association, Salvation Army Boys Club, Diversified Opportunities, Downtown Development Corporation, Mental Health Association, the Central Wilson Association, and the Wilson Transportation Committee, among others.
Morrison and his wife, Nancy, make their home in Wilson with their two children, Brame Perry Morrison III and Nell St. Clair Morrison. They are members of First Presbyterian Church in Wilson where he serves as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
